Is it August already? In spite of the heat and smoky skies, summer seems to be flying by. This month, we’ll point you toward some fun events that show off our communities’ “Local Flavor” in more ways than one!

Friday, Aug. 9 & Saturday, Aug. 10

Star Party at Ponderosa State Park

Cross your fingers for clear skies and come enjoy a celestial treat – stargazing with the Boise Astronomical Society’s high-powered telescopes! Night owls have two chances to search for nebulas, Saturn and Jupiter. For those with bedtimes, daytime activities abound and include a chance to safely look at the sun through specialized equipment.

Friday – Sunday, Aug. 9 – 11

Donnelly Huckleberry Festival

Known to locals as “Huckfest”, this annual celebration of everything huckleberry casts a delightful lavender haze over Donnelly for three days each August. Favorite events include the Huckleberry Trot 5k on Saturday morning, along with the Huckleberry Parade and Breakfast events. Friendly faces and delicious berry-flavored treats make this event a small town Idaho gem!

Movie By the Lake

Enjoy a family movie night that doesn’t break the bank (You can even bring your own snacks from home!).

The City of McCall is hosting a free screening of “Back to the Future” at 9:30 pm. Come prepared for cool mountain temps, bring layers, blankets, low back chairs and enjoy a movie on the big screen by the lake!

Saturday, Aug. 17

Mountain Brewfest

Downtown McCall’s Ponderosa Center is the place to be on Saturday, August 17, when the McCall Rotary Club brings together more than 20 local breweries for this one-day festival of fun.

Tickets are $45 per person and include beer tastings and a commemorative glass. Enjoy live music all day and a choice of tasty food options from a variety of food trucks. Tickets sell fast, advanced purchase is recommended.

Our communities have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to local produce and food stuffs. We have not one but THREE active farmer’s markets operating in the local area, so shoppers get endless choices when it comes to selection…and location! Donnelly Farmers Market – 3 pm – 6 pm – Donnelly City Park

McCall Farmers Market – 10 am – 1 pm – 2nd Street in McCall

SATURDAYS:

McCall Farmers Market – 10 am – 1 pm – 2nd Street in McCall

New Meadows Farmers Market – 10 am – 2 pm – Warr Memorial Park
